This book is the answer to my curiosity I have had so far. I had seen a few illustrations from Dinotopia by the author previously but really had no idea how truly amazing his work is. The following sections detail his workspace, developing styles, and identifying artistic influences – all useful for expressing our own unique takes on imagery using the tools and strategies of those who came before.
Anyway, where was I? Imaginative Realism is an enlightening and fun read. It could be a very helpful book for someone loo James Gurney’s illustrations in the book are incredible.
I have a whole new appreciation of his craft. Customers who viewed this item also viewed. But overall, I’d imatinative this is one book that should be in every artist’s library— regardless of their style and purpose.

What I like most about it is that you can almost see into author’s head. I promise it will become your go to art book.
What this book contains is a distillation of the time-tested methods that I’ve found to be most helpful for achieving realism in reaoism pictures. Sorry to my Canadian and overseas friends. He has also drawn beautiful illustrations for publications like National Geographic.
An interesting insight into how an artist creates fantastical worlds. Gurney truly is a master of “Imaginative Realism”.
