I’ll admit psionics in 3e were kind of beefy, especially if you had a copy of GURPS Lensman handy, but 4e seemed to make it easier to cast a spell or blast your way out of trouble.

There were tweaks and revisions, but not enough to balance the standard Magic system against other methods of representing Powers.
